KABUL: The President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, East Azerbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati and Ayatollah Al-Hashem and Imam Juma leader of Tabriz, were killed when the helicopter carrying them crashed, the state-run Mehr news said on Monday.
The Iranian government news agency reported that the accident occurred due to inclement weather conditions.
It has been said that 9 passengers of the helicopter, along with high-ranking Iranian officials lost their lives.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Hasan Kazemi Qomi, Iran’s special representative for Afghanistan affairs, has also confirmed the deaths of his country’s high-ranking officials.
The helicopter crash carrying the Iranian president has triggered widespread reactions in the region.
