KABUL: Based on the Decree of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate Shaikh-ul-Hadith Mawlavi Hibatullah Akhundzada, and guidance of the Chief of Justice and president of the Supreme Court, 349 prisoners were released on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.
The country’s Supreme Court said in a statement on Saturday that a discount has been given to another 270 prisoners’ terms.
According to the statement, the decision on the release and reduction of prison terms of the prisoners will be implemented by a delegation headed by the Director General of Judicial Inspection of the Supreme Court and representatives from the Administrative Affairs of the President, the Intelligence Department of the Ministry of Interior, the Kabul Criminal Investigation Department, the High Oversight of Orders and Decrees, and the General Directorate of National Intelligence.
The Supreme Court added that the implementation procedure of the decree has also been approved by the leadership of the Islamic Emirate.
The leadership of the Islamic Emirate periodically issues decrees on the release of a number of prisoners from the country’s prisons on important national occasions.
