Afghanistan asks permission for 300 stranded fruit and vegetable trucks at Pakistani borders

ISLAMABAD: The Afghan Embassy in Islamabad says that a delegation from the embassy, in a meeting with Maria Kazi, the Director General of Foreign Trade at the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, discussed the issue of 300 stranded trucks carrying Afghan fruit and vegetables at the Pakistani borders.

In the meeting, they discussed the problems regarding the confiscated Afghan export goods at the Torkham, Spin Boldak and Kharlachi border crossings, the facilitation of trade between the two countries, and the removal of existing trade barriers, said the statement.

According to the statement, the delegation emphasized the need to resolve the issue of the 300 stranded trucks carrying Afghan fruits and vegetables at the mentioned border crossings.

The trucks have been halted due to a lack of temporary admission documents, said the statement.

Referring to the Afghan fruit and vegetable export season, the Afghan delegation expressed concerns about additional taxes being imposed on these goods by Pakistan. Every year during the Afghan fruit and vegetable export season, Pakistan imposes various reasons to confiscate the trucks carrying the goods.
