Herat achieves self-sufficiency in dairy production

KABUL: The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock in a statement on Sunday, said that Herat province achieved self-sufficiency through the production of dairy products.

The statement quoted Ghulam Mohammad Amiri, the head of the Cattle Farmers Union in Herat province as saying: “Currently 315 tons of dairy are produced daily in the province in which 35 tons of it are exported to the provinces of Nimroz, Kabul and Kandahar, while the rest is distributed to the markets of the province”.

He added that there are currently 700 active dairy farms in the province.

With the establishment of this number of dairy farms in Herat, 5 to 20 people are also employed on each farm.
