Extraction of Mes Aynak copper mine begins in Logar

KABUL: The extraction of the Mes Aynak copper mine, in a ceremony held today [Wednesday, July 24, 2024] in Mohammad Agha district of Logar province has been kicked off, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said in a statement.

The ceremony was attended by a number of cabinet members and local officials and the authorities of the contracting company, said the statement.

Speaking in the ceremony, the Acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Mullah Hedayatullah Badri, said that Mes Aynak is very effective in terms of job opportunities for the citizens of the country.

“All extraction matters will be carried out on the basis of the standards stipulated in the contract,” the statement quoted him as saying.

Meanwhile, the Acting Minister of Information and Culture Mullah Khairullah Khairkhwa, called the start of the practical extraction of the Mes Aynak copper mine as a historic moment for Afghanistan.

The officials of the contracting company for the extraction of the Mes Aynak copper mine also said that the biggest challenge to the extraction of mine was the provision of security, which has now been resolved.

Mes Aynak Logar is known as the largest copper mine in the world.
