Over 200 projects worth 315 mln Afghanis inaugurated in Paktia

KABUL: A total of 212 development projects worth 315 million Afghanis (some 4,444,650 US Dollars) have been inaugurated in Paktia province, the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MoRRD) said in a statement.

The projects were inaugurated during a ceremony which was attended by the Acting Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development Mullah Mohammad Younus Akhund, provincial officials and some others.

According to the statement, the development projects were implemented through the Afghanistan Social and Economic Empowerment Program in Gardez, the provincial capital of Paktia, with the financial support of the United Nations Office for Project Service (UNOPS).

The projects included the construction of rural roads, canals, agricultural channels and Karez (underground water channel), canals cleaning, protection walls and gabions, bridges, and culverts, said the statement.

According to the statement, during the implementation of the development projects, employment opportunities were also provided for hundreds of Paktia residents.

Meanwhile, two days ago, the construction work on two development projects worth nearly 180 million Afghanis has also begun in Helmand province.
