Chinese company interested in constructing three power generation dams in Kunar

KABUL: Representatives of a Chinese company in a meeting with the Acting Minister of Water and Energy Mullah Abdul Latif Mansoor, said that they are ready to build three power generation dams along the Kunar River, the ministry said in a statement today.
According to the statement, the large power dams that are going to be built over the Kunar River will be named “Shal, Sagi, and Sartaq”.
The officials of the Chinese company have emphasized that they are ready to invest in the aforementioned projects and have requested the signing of the relevant agreements as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the Acting Minister of Water and Energy Mullah Abdul Latif Mansoor assured the company’s representatives regarding the ministry’s necessary cooperation and emphasized the initiation of the dams’ practical work.
Kunar River is one of the turbulent rivers of the country, and if the aforementioned projects are implemented, Afghanistan will not only become self-sufficient in terms of electricity production but will also export electricity.
