Five check dams worth 11 mln AFG inaugurated in Kabul

KABUL: Five check dams worth 11 million Afghanis (some 154,770 US Dollars) during a ceremony, have been inaugurated in Kabul, the Ministry of Water and Energy said in a statement today.
According to the statement, the ceremony which was held in the Chahar Asiab district of Kabul, was attended by the Acting Minister of Water and Energy Mullah Abdul Latif Mansoor, governor of Kabul Mawlavi Ubaidullah Ubaid, residents of the area and some others.
The Acting Minister of Water and Energy has stated the purpose of building the check dams in Kabul city is to strengthen water resources, collect rainwater, prevent flood damage, protect the environment and create employment.
The check dams were implemented in Chahar Asiab, Bagrami, Khak Jabar, Sorubi and Mosahi districts of Kabul, according to the statement.
The check dams has the capacity of storing 8,200 cubic meters of water.
