Noor al-Jihad substation inaugurated and construction of Torghundi-Herat Railway begins

KABUL: With the practical commencement of the TAPI project in Afghanistan, the Noor al-Jihad substation, and the construction of the Torghundi-Herat railway during a ceremony were inaugurated today [Wednesday, September 11, 2024].
The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the National Leader of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and a number of high-ranking officials of both countries, the statement said.
Speaking in the ceremony, Dr. Abdul Bari Omar, the executive director of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) stated that since the establishment of the Islamic Emirate, electricity production from domestic and imported sources has reached 1,000 megawatts.
He added that this production is expected to increase to 4,000 megawatts within the next two years.
Meanwhile, Mullah Bakht-ur-Rahman Sharafat, Deputy Minister of Railways at the Ministry of Public Works, speaking to the reporters said that work on two additional projects has also begun by the ministry in Herat province.
“The development of the Torghundi port, considering the accepted standards for loading and unloading traders’ goods, along with the initiation of railway construction from this port to Herat city, with 22 kilometers, are included in these two projects,” he said.
Also, the practical work on the TAPI project commenced today with the participation of senior officials from both the Islamic Emirate and Turkmenistan.
It’s mentionable that with the inauguration of Herat’s Noor al-Jihad substation, Turkmenistan’s electricity exports to Afghanistan have increased by 100 megawatts.
