KABUL: The Acting Minister of Water and Energy Mullah Abdul Latif Mansour, in an official ceremony, kicked off the construction of the first section of phase one of the “Shahi Canal” project in Laghman, the ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
Speaking in the ceremony, Mullah Abdul Latif Mansour said that numerous projects have been implemented in the fields of water management and electricity generation in the country.
He also mentioned that work on five other major projects will begin soon.
According to the statement, the “Shahi Canal” is located in Alingar district, and with a length of 70 kilometers, designed in two phases, serves to irrigate approximately 20,000 hectares of land, the statement added.
The first phase, comprising four parts totaling 30 kilometers in length, facilitates irrigation for 5,000 hectares of agricultural land, said the statement.
