Energy Minister inaugurates water dam projects in Samangan

KABUL: The Acting Minister of Water and Energy Mullah Abdul Latif Mansour, during his visit to Samangan province, in an official ceremony, inaugurated a water dam and 6 check dam projects worth 71 million Afghani (some 1.1 million U.S. dollars) in the province, the ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
The ceremony was attended by a number of high-ranking Emirati officials including the provincial governor, the ministry’s advisers, elders and Mujahidin, the statement said.
Speaking in the ceremony, Minister Mansour said that the Spand Say water dam has been constructed with the financial support of a national trader and has the capacity to store 100,000 cubic meters of water, according to the statement.
Referring to the check dams, he stated they have been constructed at a cost of 44 million Afghani by his-led ministry and have the capacity to store 85,500 cubic meters of water.
It has been reported that nearly 4,000 families will benefit from the newly inaugurated water resources in Samangan.
