20-year occupation by U.S., Afghanistan’s environment suffered a lot, which should be compensated, China Ambassador

KABUL: The Director General of the National Environment Protection Agency, Mawlavi Muti-ul Haq Khalis, in a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan, Zhao Xing, discussed a series of environmental protection issues here in his office today.
At the outset, Mawlavi Khalis thanked China for its assistance in various fields to Afghanistan.

“The National Environmental Protection Agency is currently a member of 16 environmental conventions, unfortunately, it is not invited to participate in international environmental conferences and meetings. China should facilitate the official trip of this organization’s employees to the international meetings, to share the problems facing Afghanistan with,” he said.

He added that the people of Afghanistan are suffering from climatic problems, but the international community has given political color to this issue.

Mawlavi Khalis asked the Chinese ambassador to equip the National Environmental Protection Agency in the technical field, to activate fire warning and fire fighting systems in the forests, and to cooperate in the field of clean energy.
The Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan, Zhao Xing, mentioned that Afghanistan and China are two friendly countries and both countries have a long history of friendship.

“China is the first country in the world that cooperates with Afghanistan in political, economic, and security fields,” he said.

He further noted: “During the 20-year occupation by the United States, the environment of Afghanistan suffered a lot, which should be compensated.”
