Afghanistan plays key role in economic connectivity of regional countries, Lavrov

KABUL: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in a meeting with the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi and his accompanying delegation said that Afghanistan has an important role in the economic connectivity of regional countries.

The deputy spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, said in a statement today that the meeting between Minister Muttaqi and his Russian counterpart took place on the sidelines of the 6th Moscow Format consultation meeting on Afghanistan, in Russia.

“Russian companies are interested in investing in agriculture, mining, and transport sectors in Afghanistan,” said Lavrov emphasizing that Russia aims to expand its political and economic relations with Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi highlighted that the Moscow meetings hold special significance for the Islamic Emirate and should transform into a mechanism for enhancing relations between Kabul and regional countries.

Muttaqi said that countrywide security has paved the way for investment in various sectors in Afghanistan.

A delegation led by Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, two days ago left the country for Russia to participate in the 6th Moscow Format meeting on Afghanistan.
