Fuel tanker explosion in northern Nigeria kills at least 147, wounds dozens
KABUL: The death toll from the explosion of a fuel tanker in Nigeria has increased to 147, media reported.
The incident occurred on Wednesday in the town of Majia, located in Jigawa State in northern Nigeria.
Haruna Mayariga, an emergency official, stated that in addition to the 147 fatalities, 50 others were injured in the event.
Lawan Shisu Adam, a police spokesperson in Nigeria, reported that the tanker overturned and exploded after losing control on a public road.
According to Mr. Adam, a fire broke out while residents were engaged in transferring fuel, resulting in approximately 200 people being killed or injured.
Initially, it was reported that the incident claimed the lives of 30 individuals and injured dozens more.
