KABUL: The Deputy Art and Culture Minister of Information and Culture, Mawlavi Atiqullah Azizi, met with the head of the United Nations Political Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Roza Otunbayeva, here in his office, the ministry said in a statement today.
In the meeting, Mawlavi Azizi said that in the past 20 years, no attention has been paid to public books and art departments, and urged the organization to cooperate in this regard.
Meanwhile, the head of UNAMA, Roza Otunbayeva, called “literacy” in Afghanistan as necessary and vital issue and assured her organization’s cooperation with the Literacy, Public Library, and Art departments in addition to humanitarian aid.
Also, the two sides talked about the protection and restoration of the country’s historical monuments, ancient and cultural areas, and prevention of smuggling and illegal excavations of historical relics, said the statement
Mawlavi Azizi asked the international community to take part in the restoration, protection, and training of the employees of Afghanistan’s historical preservation.
Head of UNAMA added that more than 5 million children in Afghanistan still do not have access to education and said that they are addressing these problems.
