KABUL: The UN Secretary-General representative in Afghanistan Roza Otunbayeva, in a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, expressed UNAMA’s commitment to cooperating with the Islamic Emirate in eliminating drugs, promoting alternative crops, and treating addicts.
In the meeting, the UNAMA head welcomed holding exhibitions showcasing Afghan products in Kabul and noted that the blockade of borders by some neighboring countries is detrimental to farmers, according to a statement from the Arg.
She urged the Islamic Emirate to engage in discussions with various countries on this matter, assuring that UNAMA would also make efforts in this regard.
Otunbayeva also mentioned that during her recent trips abroad, she received part of the winter aid for those in need in Afghanistan for the upcoming winter.
Meanwhile, Mawlavi Abdul Kabir acknowledged the importance of UNAMA’s mission in Afghanistan and called for responsible engagement from the organization on certain issues.
He stated that a meeting will soon be held by the High Commission for the Fight Against Drugs of the IslamicEmirateofAfghanistan, with the participation of UNAMA and several embassies based in Kabul.
It is noteworthy that the Islamic Emirate has established a High Commission to seriously combat drug trafficking and recently finalized the draft operational procedures for its activities.
