KABUL: The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, inaugurated the construction work of the second line of the Kabul-Jalalabad highway, his office said in a statement today.
“Based on the decree of the Supreme Leader the second line of the Kabul-Jalalabad highway will be built, by collecting ‘right of way’ from freight vehicles,” said the statement.
Emphasizing on the importance of the project, Mullah Baradar said that its completion will significantly reduce traffic congestion on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway, according to the statement.
He noted that the project will also facilitate the movement of trade convoys, decrease traffic incidents, lower costs, and promote the growth of small and medium enterprises.
“Standardization and strengthening of internal transport are essential conditions for connecting Afghanistan to the region,” he said.
The second line of the Kabul-Jalalabad highway with a length of 150 kilometers, starts from the Bagrami district in Kabul and passes through Khogyani, Hesarak, and Surkh Rod districts, eventually leading to the circular road of Afghanistan.
