KABUL: The office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, in a statement said today that 355 check dams will be constructed across the country.
According to the statement, of the 355 check dams, a number of them have been completed and inaugurated and others are under construction.
138 of the check dams by the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, 117 by the Ministry of Water and Energy, and 100 by the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development will be constructed, said the statement.
Both completed and ongoing check dam projects have been funded by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, said the statement.
The check dams have been constructed for managing rainwater, preventing flooding, and strengthening groundwater levels.
Earlier this year, officials from the Islamic Emirate had announced plans to build one check dam in every district of the country.
