KABUL: Tom Fletcher, the new deputy to António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, has said that 281 individuals working within humanitarian teams were killed worldwide during the year 2024.
Fletcher emphasized the importance of protecting aid workers globally, especially in war-torn countries.
He called on nations to recognize their responsibility in safeguarding these workers and to adhere to international laws concerning their protection.
He also urged for the identification and punishment of those responsible for the deaths of humanitarian personnel in various countries.
According to UN reports, the Zionist regime’s severe attacks claimed the lives of hundreds of international aid workers in the Gaza Strip over the past year.
Recently, this regime also injured several UN peacekeepers in an attack in southern Lebanon.
