UN report on increasing drug production in Afghanistan is inaccurate

KABUL: The spokesman of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, Mufti Abdul Mateen Qani, in a statement on Wednesday, rejecting the United Nations’ recent report claiming that the cultivation and production of drugs increased in Afghanistan, called it inaccurate.

He asserted that assessments conducted by the ministry show a significant decrease in drug cultivation and production over the past year.

The police forces are actively engaged in combating drug-related activities and eradicating poppy fields across all provinces, ensuring that no area remains unchecked, he said.

“With regrets that Afghanistan’s expectations from countries and international organizations, including cooperation in eliminating this issue by providing alternative livelihoods, have not been met,” the statement quoted him as saying.

He further said that the fight against drugs in Afghanistan continues seriously, as the sacred religion of Islam prohibits such activities, and the esteemed Amir al-Mumineen has issued directives in this regard.

It is noteworthy that the United Nations recently published a report indicating an increase in drug cultivation and production in Afghanistan.
