KABUL: The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Mawlavi Sadr Azam Osmani, met with the European Union’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Thomas Nicholson, here in his office, Musbahuddin Mustaeen spokesperson of the ministry said to Radio Omid on Tuesday.
According to him, Mawlavi Osmani criticized the way international aid is utilized by EU-affiliated organizations operating in Afghanistan and emphasized the importance of transparent use of these funds to ensure benefits reach the country’s farmers.
The Deputy Minister also called for EU support for alternative crops to opium poppy cultivation.
The spokesperson noted that in the meeting, Nicholson provided information about projects funded and implemented by the EU in Afghanistan.
He expressed the EU’s commitment to improving the living conditions of the Afghan people.
