Lavrov: If U.S. will to negotiate to end Ukraine war, it must take first step

KABUL: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in a press conference in Moscow, said that if the United States has the will to engage in dialogue and end the war in Ukraine, it must take first step.

He called the U.S. withdrawal from the negotiating table as a reason for Washington needing to lead the peace talks regarding Ukraine.

“Russia is ready to respond to a strong and serious commitment from the U.S. regarding the conclusion of the Ukraine war,” he said, adding Moscow seeks a legal and enforceable agreement to end the conflict.

It appears that Russia’s goal for such an agreement is to address the blockade of pathways back to war.

Previously, Donald Trump, the elected President of the United States, has stated multiple times that he would end the war in Ukraine once he takes office.
