KABUL: The National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) said in a statement on Sunday that 438,000 metric tons of rice have been harvested in 17 provinces of the country within the current solar year, showing a 9.6 percent increase comparing to the previous year.
According to the statement, Kunduz province produced 130,000 metric tons of rice, Takhar generated 107,000 metric tons of rice, and the remaining have been produced in Nangarhar, Kunar, Baghlan and Balkh provinces of the country.
The country’s rice requirement is a total of 705,000 metric tons and the rest will be imported from the neighboring countries, said the authority.
