KABUL: The finance minister of the new Syrian government, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, Mohammad Abazeid, said that salaries of certain government sectors will increase fourfold.
Mr. Abazeid stated: “Salary increase for Syrian government employees will take effect next month (February), aiming to enhance the efficiency of government offices and implement an emergency plan to improve the country’s economy.”
According to him, this salary increase will incur an additional monthly cost of $127 million for the government.
It remains unclear which specific sectors will benefit from the salary increases.
Notably, although it has only been a month since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government and the establishment of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s rule, conditions in the country are rapidly improving.
