Police arrest Yoon Suk Yeol South Korea’s president

KABUL: The suspended President of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, has finally been arrested by the country’s police, his office confirmed this morning.

“The South Korean president, whose duties and powers were suspended by parliament about a month ago, surrendered to the police for questioning,” his office said in a statement.

South Korean police had previously opposed his arrest, and two earlier attempts to detain Yoon had failed due to resistance from the National Security Guard responsible for his protection.

This is the first time in South Korean history that a president has been arrested by the police before the official end of his term.

The suspended president has been accused of declaring martial law in the country.
