Borrell criticizes failure to arrest Israeli Prime Minister

KABUL: Josep Borrell, former high representative for foreign affairs of the European Union, has criticized the non-implementation of the arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister.

Borrell expressed this concern on the social media platform X on Friday night, questioning how the international community expects the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague against Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, to be enforced while a similar request for Benjamin Netanyahu does not exist.

He emphasized that such double standards are diminishing the credibility of the global community in upholding the law.

He also described the selective approach of countries toward the ICC statute as incomprehensible.

This comes despite an arrest warrant being issued for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant related to war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip, with no action taken to enforce it so far.
