KABUL: The Ministry of Industry and Commerce said on Saturday that 42,200 kilograms of saffron worth $29 million have been exported to the world markets within the past 9 months of the ongoing solar year.
According to the statement, most of the exports went to India, Spain, Australia, Saudi Arabia, America, France, the UAE, and Turkey.
About seven months ago, the International Institute of Taste in Belgium stated in a report that Afghan saffron had secured the top position globally in terms of flavor for the ninth consecutive time.
Saffron has been promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock as a replacement for poppy cultivation in Afghanistan.
