KABUL: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate said in a statement on Tuesday, that Khan Mohammad, an Afghan Mujahid, has returned to the country after being released from a U.S. prison.
According to the statement, Khan Mohammad was freed as part of productive negotiations between the Islamic Emirate and the United States, resulting in a prisoner exchange.
“The release of Afghan and American prisoners is a positive example of resolving issues through negotiations between Afghanistan and the U.S.,” said the statement.
The statement also expressed gratitude for the important role played by Qatar in facilitating this exchange.
The Islamic Emirate views as positive steps taken by the U.S. toward normalization of relations between the two sides, the statement further said.
It is worth mentioning that Khan Mohammad was arrested approximately 20 years ago in Nangarhar province and has been serving a life sentence in a California prison.
