Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund calls for transparency in humanitarian aid distribution

KABUL: Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, called for transparency in the distribution of humanitarian aid, according to a statement from his office on Tuesday.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Indrika Ratwatte, the Deputy of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), asking the organization to transfer its assistance to developmental sectors.

“This transfer would create job opportunities for the people and improve their living conditions,” the statement quoted him as saying.

The UNAMA Deputy emphasized that the organization will continue its coordination and cooperation with the Islamic Emirate in providing facilities to returning migrants, supporting the private sector, developing small businesses, and providing alternatives for farmers.

He also highlighted that UNAMA will support farmers by distributing improved seeds and chemical fertilizers, constructing small dams, cleaning canals, and marketing Afghan agricultural products and goods in global markets.
