KABUL: The European Union has announced that it has lifted sanctions on key economic sectors in Syria.
The EU emphasized that if the new Syrian government fails to uphold commitments towards respecting minority rights and taking steps towards democracy, the sanctions will be reimposed.
Meanwhile, Syria’s Foreign Minister, Asad al-Shibani, welcomed the EU’s decision, describing it as a positive step towards alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people.
The European countries stated that the purpose of lifting the sanctions is to assist the Syrian people and facilitate interactions with Syrian traders.
