UN Secretary-General: Afghanistan’s economy grows by 2.7%

KABUL: The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, reported in his quarterly update on Afghanistan that the country’s economy has grown by 2.7% from November 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025.

“During this period, the value of the Afghan currency increased by 15.7% against the U.S. dollar, although there was a 4.8% decline in November and December of the previous year,” the report said.

According to the report, goods worth $10.8 billion were imported into Afghanistan during this time, reflecting a 40% increase, while exports saw a 5% decrease.

The UN Secretary-General also noted that in 2025, approximately 22.9 million people in Afghanistan will require humanitarian assistance.
