KABUL: In response to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime’s (UNODC) report regarding the rise in opium prices in Afghanistan, spokesman of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, Mufti Abdul Mateen Qani, said on Thursday, that this increase indicates a decrease in production and supply.
According to him, the information from the UNODC reflects the seriousness of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in combating drug-related issues in the country.
“The processing and trafficking of narcotics have significantly decreased and the counter-narcotics police forces have made significant achievements in preventing the cultivation, production, and trafficking of drugs,” he said.
Mufti Abdul Mateen Qani assured that the Ministry of Interior will intensify its efforts in the fight against narcotics further than ever before.
