Minister Muttaqi, Pakistani envoy discusses bilateral trade, political cooperation, ministry

KABUL: The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, in a meeting with Mohammad Sadiq, Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, discussed the strengthening of bilateral economic and political relations here in Kabul.
Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, the ministry deputy spokesman, said in a statement on Saturday that both sides also discussed the strengthening of security and transit between Kabul and Islamabad.
Welcoming the Pakistani delegation, Minister Muttaqi said: “Barriers to trade and transit are not in the interest of either party, and some issues should not be linked together, and challenges should be addressed via dialogues.”
He further said that the process of returning Afghan refugees from Pakistan should be gradual and dignified.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Sadiq considered ensuring security in Afghanistan to be in the interest of Pakistan and the region, pledging that facilities would be created in the process of issuing visas to Afghan citizens residing in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan stated that his country has taken practical steps toward addressing the recent trade and transit challenges between the two countries.
