KABUL: Indonesian authorities raised the volcanic eruption alert to the highest level in the country, The Jakarta Post reported on Friday night.
According to reports, the eruption lasted for 11 minutes and 9 seconds, reaching a height of 1,703 meters at the Lewotobi Laki Laki mountain located in the province of Nusa Tenggara in eastern Indonesia.
The report states that following the eruption and the high-level emergency alert, at least seven international flights from Bali, Indonesia, have been canceled.
The eruption has reportedly ejected ash up to 8 kilometers into the atmosphere, prompting authorities to evacuate thousands of residents.
Abdul Mahari, spokesperson for Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency, mentioned that an emergency status has been declared for 14 days in the areas surrounding the volcano.
Indonesia is known to have one of the largest volcanic regions in the world.
