KABUL: Based on the Decree of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate Shaikh-ul-Hadith Mawlavi Hebatullah Akhundzada, more than 2,463 prisoners will be released from the country’s prisons on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, the Supreme Court said in a statement today.
According to the statement, in addition to the pardon and release of the prisoners, a reduction in the sentences of 3,152 additional prisoners has also been announced based on the issued decree.
The statement indicated that the procedure for the release of prisoners and the benefits they receive from the decree has been arranged by a committee overseen by the Chief General Inspector.
Members of the committee include the Deputy of the Inspection Administration, representatives from the Prison Management Department, the Directorate of Detection and Crimes of the Ministry of Interior, the Criminal Investigation Directorate in Kabul, the General Directorate for Following Commands and Orders, and the National Intelligence Directorate.
It is noteworthy that the leader of the Islamic Emirate occasionally issues special decrees, particularly during the festive occasions, to grant pardons and show mercy by ordering the release of prisoners.
