KABUL: The Iranian state-run IRNA news agency reported on Tuesday that new consulates are set to be established in Farah province of Afghanistan and Birjand in Khorasan Razavi province of Iran.
Seyyed Mohammad Reza Hashemi, the governor of Khorasan Razavi, stated that the aim of establishing these new consulates is to facilitate the movement of citizens between Iran and Afghanistan, as well as to enhance trade, investment, and cultural relations between the two countries.
“Approximately 95% of the exports from this province are sent to Afghanistan, making this border a significant economic advantage,” the agency quoted him as saying.
The governor also noted that Khorasan Razavi, with its extensive border with Afghanistan, hosts four border markets and plans to open two additional markets this year.
This development comes at a time when political, economic, trade, and cultural relations between Afghanistan and Iran have significantly increased over the past three years.
