Uzbekistan’s president emphasizes sustainable engagement with Afghanistan

KABUL: Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Uzbekistan, in an interview with Euro news, has recently emphasized the importance of sustainable engagement between his country and the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan.

The Uzbek president also stated that the development of Afghanistan is impossible without constructive interaction with neighboring countries.

He referred to United Nations statistics indicating that the cultivation of poppy in Afghanistan has decreased by 95%, and that infrastructure projects, including those in the transport sector, are currently underway.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev called for cooperation from the European Union with Central Asian countries to establish what he referred to as a positive agenda regarding Afghanistan.

Uzbekistan is one of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries in Central Asia that has maintained a cooperative relationship with the Islamic Emirate over the past three years.
