KABUL: Following the announcement of new tariffs by the United States on imports from various countries, China’s Ministry of Commerce has urged Washington to immediately lift these tariffs.
The Ministry of Commerce on Thursday issued a statement reacting to the new tariffs imposed by the U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday night that he would impose new tariffs ranging from 10% to 54% on imports from different countries, with China facing the highest tariff of 54%.
The statement from China’s Ministry of Commerce indicated that it would take reciprocal actions to protect its interests against the U.S. action.
The new U.S. tariffs, which have also prompted a serious reaction from the European Union, have caused fluctuations in the stock markets.
Economic experts have described the new U.S. tariffs on imports from around the world as detrimental to the global economy.
Since returning to the White House, Trump has initiated a trade war by imposing sanctions and tariffs on various countries, even allies of Washington, over the past two and a half months.
