Pakistani ruling system responsible for crises in country, Khalilzad

KABUL: Former U.S. diplomat Zalmay Khalilzad has called Pakistan’s ruling system responsible for current security, political, and economic crises in the country.

In a post on his X account, he stated that former Prime Minister Imran Khan should be released from prison and emphasized the need for negotiations between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, the current regime, and key players in the government, to develop a political framework and establish a specific timeline for conducting free and fair elections.

Khalilzad further noted that Pakistan requires fundamental reforms.

Currently, political and economic instability is increasing in Pakistan, with significant tensions observed between the PTI party and the military as a major contributing factor.
