JALALABAD: As the deadline set by the Pakistani government for the forced expulsion of Afghan migrants approaches, Mawlavi Azizullah Mustafa, Deputy Governor of Nangarhar, met with representatives of the United Nations and domestic donors.
According to a statement from the Nangarhar governor’s press office on Sunday, in the meeting, discussions focused on the dignified return of Afghan migrants from Pakistan, as well as support and resettlement in their desired locations.
Mawlavi Mustafa, who recently returned from a trip to Torkham, stated that the forced expulsion of Afghan migrants from Pakistan would deprive them of their fundamental material and moral rights and negatively impact activities at Torkham.
“The Afghan government would follow the issue of forced expulsions through diplomatic channels and called on the United Nations to play its role in this regard,” he emphasized, urging donor organizations to consider the needs of the migrants in their assistance efforts.
Reports indicate that Pakistan is set to begin a new round of forced expulsions of Afghan migrants within three days (April 10).
