KABUL: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has revoked Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 14,600 Afghan citizens residing in the United States, Reuters reported on Friday night.
Trisha McLaughlin, spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, mentioned that the revocation of TPS status includes citizens from Afghanistan and Cameroon.
Based on this decision, 14,600 Afghan refugees in the U.S. will face the risk of deportation by the end of the current year (2025).
Officials from the Department of Homeland Security indicated that this action is part of the immigration policies of the Donald Trump administration.
Temporary Protected Status is granted to individuals from countries affected by natural disasters or armed conflict.
This status lasts from six weeks to 18 months and can be extended.
