Increase in rail transfers in country; over 76,000 tons of goods transported in past one week

KABUL: The Ministry of Public Works said in a statement today that over 76,076 tons of goods have been transported by rail in the country over the one past week.
According to the ministry’s data, the transfers took place from March 15 to 21 through the ports of Hairatan, Aqina, Turghundi, and Khaf-Herat.
The ministry noted that the Hairatan rail line in Mazar-e-Sharif topped the list with 61,240 tons of transfers, while the Khaf-Herat line remained at the bottom with 1,799 tons.
Of this total, the ministry added that 13,440 tons were exports, while the remaining were imported goods.
According to the statement, dried fruits, pomegranate juice, oranges, and potatoes are the primary exports of the country via rail.
Efforts are underway to increase rail transfers in the country.
