KABUL: The Economic Commission, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, has approved the draft of the National Development Strategy, his office said in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the draft is a comprehensive, unified, and long-term document aimed at defining and achieving national goals over the next five years, prepared under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister’s office in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and relevant sector ministries.
The statement noted that this strategy envisions a stable, prosperous Afghanistan with good relations in the region and the world and its objectives include strengthening Islamic law, ensuring effectiveness, transparency, and accountability, fostering effective regional and global relations, achieving sustainable peace and security, creating employment and economic growth, preserving religious and national values, safeguarding territorial integrity and Islamic sovereignty, enhancing the effective management of national and natural resources, improving the provision of essential services, promoting industry, trade, and the private sector, developing infrastructure and regional connectivity, and enhancing social security and environmental improvement.
Also, during the meeting, the construction plan for a parking lot in the Khwaja Alwan district of Baghlan province and an underground market in Ghazni province were also approved.
The projects are set to be implemented by the private sector at a cost of 209 million and 309 million Afghanis, respectively.
It is noteworthy that the Economic Commission holds regular and ongoing meetings to better manage the country’s economic affairs.
