France to expel 12 Algerian diplomats

KABUL: Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, has decided to expel 12 Algerian diplomats and consular staff from the country.

According to the French Le Monde news agency on Tuesday night, the move comes in response to Algeria’s decision to expel 12 officials from France’s Ministry of Interior, which was issued earlier this week and provided them with 48 hours to leave Algerian territory.

The French presidency stated that the expelled officials are on their way home.

The Élysée Palace has called for dialogue regarding the tensions between the two sides.

Paris has called Algiers responsible for the recent diplomatic tensions.

This comes after the presidents of France and Algeria had a phone call two weeks ago to discuss repairing and improving relations.
