Imran Khan calls for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly’s support for Afghan refugees

KABUL: Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial assembly to support Afghan refugees.

Sheikh Waqas Akram, the spokesman for the PTI, stated on his X account on Tuesday night, that Khan mentioned during a meeting with party members in prison that a resolution should be passed in the provincial assembly for the voluntary return of Afghan refugees to their home country.

The spokesman emphasized that Khan also called for the assembly members to seek permission to engage in dialogue with the Afghan side.

Previously, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government expressed its opposition to the forced expulsion and harassment of Afghan refugees.

However, Islamabad police have recently detained and expelled thousands of Afghan refugee families under inappropriate circumstances.
