Deadly armed attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir affects India-Pakistan relations

KABUL: Following a deadly armed attack on dozens of tourists in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, New Delhi has announced changes in its policy towards Islamabad.

According to Indian media reports, Vikram Misri, Deputy Foreign Secretary of India, disclosed these changes during a press conference, stating that New Delhi has decided to suspend the “Indus Water Treaty” with Pakistan in response to the recent attack.

In addition, visas issued to Pakistani citizens have been revoked, and they have been given 48 hours to leave Indian territory.

Misri emphasized that reducing the number of Indian diplomats in Islamabad and the withdrawal of military attaches from Pakistan’s embassy in New Delhi are also under consideration.

In the attack two days ago, several armed assailants targeted tourists in Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in at least 26 fatalities and 27 injuries.

As of now, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
