Work on three uplift power supply projects resumed in provinces

KABUL: Construction work on three uplifted power supply projects was resumed in Helmand, Kandahar, and Zabul, in the presence of Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, his office said in a statement today.

Mullah Baradar sees the completion of the projects as a significant step towards energy self-sufficiency, job creation, and infrastructure development in the country, facilitating the full transmission of electricity from the Kajaki Dam to Kandahar, said the statement.

The Islamic Emirate is working to generate electricity from domestic resources, he said, adding that recently, efforts have been made to produce 250 megawatts of electricity using solar, wind, and gas resources in various provinces.

The three semi-completed projects include the completion of the Qalat substation in Zabul, the eastern Kandahar substation, and the extension of the 110 kV power line from Kajaki Dam to the eastern Kandahar substation.

The total cost of the projects is approximately one billion Afghanis, which is expected to benefit 100,000 new electricity consumers.

Completion of the projects will significantly enhance the capacity to utilize electricity from the Kajaki Dam in industrial, commercial, and agricultural sectors.
