KABUL: Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. special representative for Afghanistan, has stated that as tensions and the potential for conflict with India escalate, several Pakistani leaders are calling for national unity in the country.
In a post on his X page on Wednesday, Khalilzad emphasized that while the goal of unity is commendable, the biggest obstacle to achieving it is the continued imprisonment of Imran Khan. He asserted that national unity requires Khan’s immediate release.
This comes amid rising tensions between the two neighboring countries, particularly following recent events in Kashmir. Pakistani officials have also urged the international community to pay attention to this situation and work to prevent further escalation of tensions.
