Rising tensions between India and Pakistan; New Delhi to conduct civil defense drill

KABUL: Following escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, media reports indicate that the Indian government is planning to conduct a civil defense drill.

The Hindustan Times reported on Monday evening, that the drills are scheduled to take place on Wednesday across 244 districts classified for civil defense and will include air raid warning protocols, training on civil defense procedures, and emergency blackout measures.

This extensive training has not been conducted in the last 50 years, since the 1971 war between India and Pakistan.

A letter from the central government to the participating districts stated that the purpose of the drill is to assess and enhance the readiness of civil defense mechanisms in all states and union territories.

The drill comes at a time when the Pakistani military has conducted long-range and medium-range missile tests twice this week.

Also, the UN Secretary-General noted on social media that tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad have reached a peak.
