Araghchi: The possibility of changing Persian Gulf to Arabian Gulf, an insult to all Iranians

KABUL: Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, has reacted to the proposal of possibility of changing the name of the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Gulf, calling it an insult to all Iranians.

In a post on his X account, he stated today that the political motives behind renaming the Persian Gulf reflect a hostile intent towards Iran and its people, and condemned it strongly.

He wrote, “I hope the ridiculous rumors regarding the name of the Persian Gulf are nothing more than a smear campaign by ‘ever-warlike’ individuals to enrage Iranians worldwide and provoke them.”

According to the Foreign Minister, any short-sighted perspective on the name of the Persian Gulf will have no legal or geographical validity.

The Associated Press, citing credible sources, reported today that Donald Trump is expected to announce the name change to the Arabian Gulf or Saudi Arabian Gulf during his upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia next week.
